News
Today the electrical work was finished by our electrician Keith MacKay. He put a receptacle in the side of the island which is required by code (and common sense) and he also installed a bracket on the wall for our TV. This eliminates the need for a TV stand and gets the TV out of the way, mounted flat against the wall. All of the work and helpful suggestions by Keith throughout the project were extremely valuable.
Behind the TV, we found out that there was a fairly large space about three feet deep which runs up through the entire house next to the chimney. We never knew it was there and it could be useful in the future for running wires or pipes from the basement to the second floor.
Yesterday, we brought in the chairs from the garage where we had stained and urethaned them. These chairs were purchased, on sale at The Mill Store. They add a nice touch to the island.

Soapstone Plan B
We have been delayed a few weeks because our original soapstone surround for our sink area plans fell through. We are either learning a lot about patience or we've become very good at washing our dishes in the bathroom sink or both.
In any case, yesterday we cut our loses and met with the fine people at Stonetek in New Bedford. They work with contractors such as Mark Leary (our cabinet maker) throughout and beyond the area. They will arrive Tuesday, August 23rd to make a template and hopefully within a week of that, we'll finally have our sink in place.
Unfortunately, this one item has put the final touches on our cabinets, plumbing and electrical work on hold for the past two weeks. We actually did have the original piece of stone delivered and in place but it was the wrong color/style so we sent it back. It wasn't even close to what it should have been. There is a big difference between grey and green soapstone, trust me. We wanted grey and that is what we will end up with, eventually.

Wood Stove
We have down-sized our original idea for a wood stove. This morning we purchased a Jotul F 3 CB at Plymouth Fireplace.
The owners, Jim Ward and Len Crowley, were extremely knowledgeable
and helpful with this purchase (tax free too!). Their shop is very easy to get to, located at 56 Court Street in downtown Plymouth. (Route 3A) 1.508.747.1964
The stove will be installed later this month by John and Justin O'Donnell of The Flues Brothers of nearby Lakeville, MA who will also end up cleaning the chimney as needed. Pictured above is an example of the Jotul stove that we chose. The stove is over 75% efficient which qualifies us for a tax rebate and it will burn at a maximum of 42,000 BTU/hr. It will be vented straight up through the ceiling, keeping most of the pipe warm and visible.

Very Very Close to Completed!!
This week at the Corgi House: baseboard heaters installed, cabinets installed and almost complete, new pendant lights, and more.
Mark Leary (Leary's Carpentry) did an amazing job on the additional things I asked for including a wine glass rack, a plate rack and a wine rack (pics below). Lots of people are asking about the butcher block counters and the cabinets: Mark custom built all of the cabinets and the butcher block! You can't find these in any stores!
Keith McKay did even more electrical work to get our microwave and dishwasher units ready to operate and hung up our new light fixtures over the island and sink area.
We were also able to move more furniture back into the living areas and start to reorganize our lives!
Today we went to choose a piece of soapstone at New England Soapstone in Leominster, MA. Next week, we should get our new kitchen sink and soapstone surround.
The cabinets are getting some shelves installed, there's a bit more plumbing and electrical and there are a few other odds and ends to do (including our new wood stove!!), but we are almost complete!

One of the first things done this week: our plumber Mark Olivier and his son installed new baseboards in the living room spaces and in the dog room. |
A view of the TV area (still figuring out furniture arrangements!) |
The new pantry at 4 x 7 ft. will hold tons of storage |
This is a view of the kitchen (the 2 drawers on the counter will be put in after the sink is installed) |
This new pendant light is hanging over the soon-to-be kitchen sink |
New wine rack! Need more wine!! |
Here's that plate rack and wine glass rack above it. |
The island |
Kitchen view |
3 new pendant lights in a perfectly straight line! |
Soon, a Jotul wood stove will be going in this spot! |
Another living area view |
A view of the living area and a table we can actually sit at to eat dinner! |
Our new oven vent. This means we actually can vent the yucky air outside, instead of back into our faces like our old oven that was on an inside wall. Yay!! |
